Oath of Professionalism
With full deliberation I freely and solemnly pledge that:
I will practice the art and science of my chosen profession Audiology faithfully and conscientiously, and to the fullest score of my competence.
I will uphold and honorably promote by example and action the highest standards, ethics and ideals of audiology.
I will promote professional care for those who seek my services, with concern, with compassion and with due regard for their human rights and dignity and I will promote justice in the health care system by elimination of discrimination.
I will place treatment of those who seek my care above personal gain and strive to see that none shall lack for proper care with patient welfare my upmost concern.
I will hold as privileged and inviolate all information entrusted to me in the confidence by those who seek my services and promote the principles of individual autonomy.
I will advise my patients fully and honestly of all which my serve to restore, maintain, or enhance their health and well-being.

Our Doctors of Audiology are university trained. They are licensed and board certified in audiology. Our audiologists are also licensed and certified hearing aid specialists.
Dr. James M. McDonald
Au.D., Sc.D
James M. McDonald, Au.D., Sc.D., has been a practicing audiologist since 1975. He received his Doctor of Science degree from Johns Hopkins University, where he is a faculty member in the Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Division of the School of Medicine. He also holds a Doctor of Audiology degree from the Arizona School of Health Sciences.
Dr. McDonald is a founder of the Maryland Academy of Audiology and acted as their first president. He has served as a board member and past president of the Academy of Dispensing Audiologists and is a current member of the American Academy of Audiology where he has been on various committees.
W. Stephen Seipp
Au.D.
W. Stephen Seipp, Au.D. was awarded his Doctor of Audiology degree from Arizona School of Health Sciences and has been in practice since 1973. He currently serves as vice chair of the Maryland State Department of Health Newborn Hearing Screening Advisory Council. Dr. Seipp is a past president of the Maryland Speech Language Hearing Association and served on the Maryland State Board of Examiners for Audiologists, Speech Language Pathologists and Hearing Aid Dispensers for eight years.
Currently, Dr. Seipp is an adjunct instructor for doctoral students at Salus and Towson Universities. He has acted as a consultant to the U.S. Federal Courts Administrative Office developing hearing testing guidelines and serves on a number of non-profit organization committees and boards. He is also on the Professional Advisory Board at the Highlands School.
Dr. Seipp is a member of the Maryland Academy of Audiology, the American Academy of Audiology and the Academy of Doctors of Audiology.
Jennifer E. Bentley
Au.D.
Jennifer E. Bentley, Au.D., is an associate at the Hearing Assessment Center (HAC). Dr. Bentley earned her undergraduate degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology from Towson University and received her Doctor of Audiology degree from Rush University in Chicago, Illinois.
Prior to joining HAC, Dr. Bentley worked with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) where she assessed auditory and vestibular functioning in both adult and pediatric patients with rare genetic disorders. Although she has completed her investigation with NIH, Dr. Bentley continues to remain actively involved in patient centered research at HAC.
Dr. Bentley enjoys focusing on pediatrics, but sees a wide variety of patients. She holds a specialized certificate in tinnitus retraining therapy (TRT), which allows her to better assist patients suffering from tinnitus and hearing loss. She also participates in numerous multi-disciplinary health fairs and seminars focusing on the hearing health awareness of children and adults in surrounding communities. Dr. Bentley is a member of the American Academy of Audiology and the Maryland Academy of Audiology.
Sharon L. Roof
Au.D.
Sharon L. Roof, Au.D., is an associate at the Hearing
Assessment Center. Dr. Roof earned her Doctor of Audiology degree from the University of Florida and her master’s degree from Howard University in Washington, D.C.
Prior to joining HAC, Dr. Roof worked in and around the Baltimore area. She has had the privilege to see patients at the VA hospital in Baltimore, Kennedy Krieger Institute and the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center.
As a Baltimore native, Dr. Roof looks forward to serving her community through multi-disciplinary health fairs and informational sessions on hearing health awareness. She is a member of the American Academy of Audiology and the American Speech and Hearing Association.
Rory D. Cernik
Au.D.
Rory D. Cernik, Au.D earned his undergraduate and Doctor of Audiology degree from Towson University. Dr. Cernik developed his advanced skills in the diagnosis and treatment of hearing loss and vestibular disorders through his completion of several clinical rotations at local hospitals and private practices. He believes good hearing healthcare starts with a quality patient-doctor relationship and takes pride in utilizing the latest technologies to improve his patients’ day-to-day lives. Through his experience and passion, Dr. Cernik has become highly skilled and thorough in the fitting of the invisible, extended wear Lyric™ hearing device. He is currently a member of the Maryland Academy of Audiology and the American Academy of Audiology.
